Digital Desk: The Assam Cabinet decided to limit the CM’s convoy to six while travelling within the Guwahati city area, as per reports.
Reportedly, the CM’s convoy will consist of 12 cars, excluding the escort and pilot cars, while travelling outside the Guwahati city area. Moreover, during CM’s road trip, traffic will not be affected before the arrival of the CM in that area, although it may be paused for up to two minutes if necessary.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Tweeted, “To end public inconvenience, we decided at the Assam Cabinet to reduce CM carcade size and stop halting traffic for long during CM’s travel. We also decided to stop felicitations for CM and Ministers at official meetings, besides deciding on civic polls, etc.”
Notably, the decision came after the recent incident in Nagaon, where the chief minister rebuked the deputy commissioner for "creating difficulty to commuters."
Among other important decisions, it was decided that ambulances would prioritize the chief minister’s vehicle carcade and that they would not be halted.
It was also decided that all districts would celebrate District Day on the day when notices for district creation were sent out, with enthusiastic involvement from residents.
Moreover, ministers will only provide information on plans that are already part of the Budget or any other government announcement during official visits and public programmes.
On the other hand, municipal elections will be held before March 10, 2022, according to the State Election Commission. The Assam Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session will begin on March 14, 2022.
