Assam Ex-MLA sets stage on fire; not as legislator, this time as an actor

MARIANI: Firebrand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Mariani legislator, Rupjyoti Kurmi was seen in a new ‘avatar’ on Friday.

The former congress leader and four-time legislator from Mariani constituency, took part in a ‘Bhaona’ (traditional form of entertainment with religious messages), organized by Magic-A’pe Committee at Deberapar Chariali here.

Kurmi played the role of sage ‘Gargamuni’in the ‘bhaona’ ‘Dasyu Ratnakar Muktilaabh’.

Performance of Kurmi, who is locally very popular, enthralled the audience. A large crowd had gathered at the ‘bhaona’, especially to see their local ‘hero’ perform.

It needs mention that this is not the first time that Kurmi has taken part in a ‘bhaona’. He has performed in several such plays in the past.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, a prominent leader from the tea tribe community, had resigned from the congress and Assam Legislative Assembly in June this year and later joined the saffron party.
