Assam Government orders inquiry into the deaths of the two suspected ULB cadres

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has ordered an inquiry into the deaths of two suspected cadres of the United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB).

The two cadres, Janak Brahma and Jawngsar Mushahary, of the newly formed militant outfit ULB, were killed in an encounter with police at Ultapani area in Kokrajhar district on Saturday.

The commissioner of Lower Assam Division, Jayant Narlikar, has been directed to enquire into the circumstances leading to the death of the two suspected militants.

The commissioner will ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the death and submit an enquiry report within fifteen days.

Though the police have been maintaining that both Brahma and Mushahary were cadres of the ULB, there have been a public outcry besides allegations from opposition parties claiming that the youths were not militants.

Protests erupted throughout the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) areas following the incident with the local people claiming it to be a fake encounter.

The ULB too has denied any association with the two youths in a video statement.

Meanwhile, the Bodo Literary Society has vehemently condemned the incident and has demanded proper investigation of the case. The Literary Society has also demanded for compensation to the family members of the deceased, through proper channel.
