Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state administration is handing over a few drug cases to the Narcotics Control Bureau to solve the state's drug problem (NCB).
The Chief Minister, speaking to media on Saturday, stated, "The Assam administration is handing over a few drugs cases to the National Crime Bureau so that they may establish forward and backward links that aren't under our authority. After five years, we hope Assam becomes a role model."
The decision of Assam Governmentt to hand over sizeable unsolved drug cases to the central agency stems from a November 2021 letter from NCB director general (DG) Satya Narayan Pradhan to top state government officials, in which he stated that states should consider sending cases with inter-state or international ramifications to it to bring the investigation to a logical conclusion.
At a National Health Mission program on September 24, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal formally launched the 'Free Drugs Scheme' for 651 tea garden hospitals.
The Assam government has already alerted police authorities to have keen eyes over any illegal drug smuggling in the state. Over the last two years, there have been numerable drives sheduled by authorities against drug smuggling in the state.
