Digital Desk: The Assam government is considering building a 'Unity Mall' (Ekta Mall) in Guwahati at an expense of Rs 200 crore in order to promote national cohesion and the 'Make in India' thought process.
The state administration is also attempting to promote the 'One District, One Product' concept, which was introduced earlier this year.
The decision to build the mall was made at a state cabinet meeting on September 12 evening at Guwahati's Janata Bhawan, presided over by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The mall will feature 35 showrooms for all states/union territories, as well as 35 showrooms for each of the states' 35 districts.
Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah announced the important decisions made at the cabinet meeting, saying that the Unity Mall will be built near the Assam Trade Promotion Organisation Complex in Betkuchi and that the state cabinet has authorised Rs 226 crore for the project.
