Guwahati: To settle the decade-long inter-state border dispute, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the national capital on Thursday.
Notably, Assam-Meghalaya governments have agreed on a ‘give-and-take’ mechanism to resolve six of the 12 border issues between the two states.
The issues of the areas to be resolve in the first phase are-Hahim, Gizang, Tarabari, Boklapara, Khanapara-Pillingkata, and Ratacherra.
Earlier, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the six areas of disagreement would be addressed in the first phase of the ongoing border dispute.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma tweeted, “Cabinet has approved the recommendations of all 3 Regional
Committees as process to resolve the Assam-Meghalaya border issue. The recommendations of both States will be submitted to MHA. Along with HCM @himantabiswa we will meet with Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for further action.”
On Wednesday, in two separate meetings held in Guwahati, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met with the representatives of political parties and student organizations to discuss and solicit their opinions to resolve the decade-long inter-state border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya through consultations.
Representatives from the political parties of Congress, CPI(M), BJP, AGP, AIUDF, BPF, and UPPL were present at the meeting. While discussion with student organizations was held with AASU, ABSU, ARSU, AAGSU, and GSU members.
Moreover, the second meeting was also attended by Tankeswar Rabha, the Chief Executive Member of the
Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council.\
