Digital Desk: Assam has recorded 2,837 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, stated National Health Mission (NHM) on Tuesday. The rate of cases rose by 29 percent on Tuesday, making it the highest score since June 22 last year.
The state recorded 2,198 fresh cases with a positivity rate of 4.49 percent on Monday upon testing 48,964 samples. On Tuesday, 2,837 fresh cases were identified against the review of 49,840 samples, recording a positivity of 5.69 percent, the bulletin stated.
The threat of the third wave has officially started in the state, including other parts of the nation. The new Omicron variant is also under surge with its fastest transmission level.
The NHM communicated that the number of positive cases in the Kamrup Metropolitan district, mainly Guwahati city, rose to 870 from 760 a day before. It has so far registered a sum of 1,34,287 cases of COVID-19.

The digit of recoveries increased by nearly eight percent to 449 individuals on Tuesday from 416 on Monday. In the state, around 6,14,991 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered from the virus. Moreover, the COVID-19 death toll has moved up to 7,532, NHM stated.
Assam government has already set curbs to fight against the surge of the third wave of Covid-19. The government on Monday began administering the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine (booster dose) to vulnerable groups such as healthcare and frontline employees and senior individuals with comorbidities.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already directed schools and colleges to continue with their online classes to limit the surge of the virus. The government also issued other essential measures with the latest SOP for the state.
The state's health specialists also asked people to wear masks and maintain social distancing to avoid getting positive of Covid-19.
