Assam: The boundary dispute between Assam and Mizoram is nearly a century and a half back story which still triggers tension around the people of both states. The dispute has taken a violent clash which resulted in the burning of houses in Mizoram and the death of 6 police officials of Assam along with one civilian taking the number of casualties to 7 and more than 60 officials being critically injured.
Considering the present tensed situation there has been a reshuffle and transfer of important top police officials in Assam. As per orders by the Government of Assam, Smti Ramandeep Kaur, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi, Assam has been transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Cachar; Shri Gaurav Upadhyay, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Chirang, Assam has been transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi; Shri Pranjit Borah, APS, DCP Traffic has been transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Chirang.
Assam Police Cachar SP, Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, who got critically injured during the exchange of fire at the Assam-Mizoram border, has been airlifted from Silchar to Mumbai for advanced treatment. Along with him, 6 jawans of Assam Police succumbed along with one civilian.
The Central Government should immediately resolve this age-old issue of the border dispute in the North-eastern states so as to put a stop to any further casualties in the future regarding border violence.
