Congress MP Abdul Khaleque files Police complaint against Assam CM Sarma

Digital Desk: Assam Congress MP Abdul Khaleque has filed a police complaint against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. MP Abdul filed the complaint on Wednesday.

The complaint was filed over the recent speech of Assam CM Sarma in Morigaon. The speech was related to the violent eviction drive in the Darrang district of Assam. During the eviction drive, 2 people died, and a few others were injured three months back.

Congress MP Abdul Khaleque in the FIR has accused Assam CM Sarma of becoming the "chief violator of the Constitution & the rule of law." He also claimed that Sarma is destroying the social scenario of Assam. The FIR was lodged at the Dispur Police station on Wednesday.

Congress MP Abdul Khaleque also added in the FIR, "Betraying his oath on the Constitution, the Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. Sarma has wickedly given a communal colour to what was believed to be an executive practice. As a result, the Gorukhuti eviction witnessed the brutal killings of Moinul Hoque and Sheikh Farid."

He further added, " Houses of the residents of Gorukhuti were burnt to the ground. Sri Himanta Biswa Sarma has not only justified the killings and arson committed there, the legality of which is sub-judice before the Hon'ble Gauhati High Court, but he has gone far ahead. He has communalized the whole exercise - the target of which was the Muslim population living there."

Assam CM Sarma, during his speech, stated, "The Gorukhuti land belonged to the Assamese people. There was a 4,000-year-old Shiva temple where its priest was murdered...none of this was noted by the national and international media when they covered the eviction. In 1983, ... young Assamese boys were killed in Darrang district. Today, Assam is bound to take some degree of revenge for those deaths."

As a reponse, Khaleque said that the chief minister has the constitutional obligation to protect its citizens irrespective of caste, creed, or religion.
