    Covid-19 Update: Assam records 6,982 cases in 24 hours 
    Digital Desk: The threat of Covid-19 continues to create chaos among the people. According to the latest report by the state health department, Assam recorded 6,982 fresh Covid-19 cases in a single day.

    The health department notified that the new 6.982 cases had stretched the positivity rate to 10.75 per cent. Last day, the positivity rate stood at 8.99%. It shows that within 24 hours, the positivity rate increased by 2%. 

    Moreover, 11 deaths have been recorded in the state in the last 24 hours due to the Covid-19 infection. 

    Among these cumulative positive cases identified in the state, 1,491 cases were reported alone in Guwahati and Kamrup (Metro). Including Guwahati city, 489 cases were detected in Dibrugarh, 407 in Tinsukia and 372 in Cachar district.

    According to the Assam government data, the state has recorded 24,778 Covid-19 positive cases within a week. Meantime, the state's recovery rate stood at 95.18 per cent.

    Overall, 47 Omicron cases were documented in Assam on Monday after the North East Institute of Science and Technology gave over the confirmatory reports of the presumed patients following whole-genome sequencing.

    As per sources, Besides international tourists, the new variation Omicron was also detected in the CRPF camp in Dhemaji and community verification in Jorhat. 

    Guwahati has recorded the highest number of positive cases because it is the hub for the northeast. The Assam government has already set curbs for limiting the virus. However, the spike in positive cases seems to continue with a great hike. 

    The Assam government has made it compulsory for the people to wear masks, and measures are underway to provide complete vaccination to every individual of the state.

    Moreover, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lately stated that those who are non-vaccinated will not be allowed to enter any public places such as market areas, shopping malls, eateries etc.
