Digital Desk: Former General Secretary of Nagaon College student union and AASU leader Kirti Kamal Bora was injured in police firing on Saturday evening.
As per sources, Kirti was allegedly shot at by the anti-narcotics team of Nagaon police.
Addressing media, Kirti stated that he went out to get some medicines for his mother. However, he saw some police personnel allegedly beating a man near his locality while returning home.
“When I questioned them the reason for hitting the person, the police personnel terrorized me with dire outcomes and abused me verbally. As soon as I responded to their remarks, they pulled me in the street and began hitting me with a stick. Afterward, they shot me in the leg,” stated Kirti.
Kirti said that he was innocent and had not even used any abusive language against the police personnel. Moreover, the family members of the injured Kirti alleged police for firing him for no reasonable cause.
Initially, he was admitted to Nagaon Civil Hospital. However, presently he has been taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for better treatment. A team of doctors from GMCH is initiating treatment for the former Nagaon College GS.
The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) condemned this police firing upon AASU leader Kirti Kamal Bora. Moreover, Former All Assam Students Union General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi stated that this incident was free firing. He further added that the ruling government is disturbing the right to express for citizens and violating human rights.
The Raijor Dal party chief Akhil Gogoi also highly condemned the shooting of a student leader in Nagaon.Gogoi stated that this incident had highlighted a significant failure to Assam police actions and duty.
Moreover, the general public demanded that the government suspend the Nagaon police commissioner. Moreover, locals have asked the government to uncover the police personnel involved in the incident and take significant actions against them.
In this response, the district Police Superintendent of police Anand Mishra asserted that when the anti-narcotics unit stopped Kirti Kamal Bora, he allegedly attacked them, after which police retaliated and hit him on his leg.
SP Anand Mishra even noted another individual alongside Kirti Kamal Bora. “We are questioning him as well. As per the initial investigation, it is known that one of our police personnel was battered by Kirti Kamal Bora, after which the police avenged back. He was overthrown and was hit in the leg, or else it could have been a catastrophic incident.”
