Government employees and pensioners ration card holders to surrender their cards: Assam Government
Digital Desk: The State Government has urged all state employees and pensioners who have ration cards to surrender them by March 15, 2022. The government has stated that if they do not comply, legal action will be taken against them.

As per the reports, government personnel and retirees cannot have ration cards. However, thousands of ineligible households have cards in the state, along with a section of government officials and pensioners. As a result, they benefit from various government programs to which they are not eligible.

Ration cards are held by 58.91 lakh families in Assam, with 2.5 crore beneficiaries. The Food and Civil Supplies Department has invalidated or removed around 2.7 lakh cards belonging to ineligible families in the last three years.

The Kamrup District Administration issued an order today requesting that government employees and retirees relinquish their ration cards by March 15, 2022, if they have not already done so.

The directive further stated that if they did not surrender their ration cards by the deadline, the district administration would take legal action against them, following the applicable laws.

The district administration further stated that the value of the items improperly removed would be recouped from the pay of the staff and pensioners involved. The Deputy Commissioner also advised the district's financially secure households to relinquish their cards for the sake of the district's underprivileged families.
