    Omicron reaches Northeast, 1st case detected in Manipur

    Imphal : Omicron has finally made its entry into Northeast India, putting all seven sister states on its toes of a probable spread. Manipur has detected its first Omicron case on Monday, wherein the patient had recently returned from Tanzania.





    The patient is currently undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.





    Doctors have reported the patient’s condition to be stable and no severe illness has been detected on him.

    Incidentally, the 1st case of Covid-19 in Northeast was detected in Manipur in 2020. That patient was a girl, who had returned from United Kingdom.





    Meanwhile, governments of Assam, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have enforced night curfews with strict restrictions on huge gatherings.





    The Assam Government has urged its people to follow Covid appropriate behaviour in public spaces, along with all government prescribed protocols, in order to stop the spread of the infection.





    In the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) released by the State Government of Assam, jurisdictional authorities have been directed to fix the number of gatherings for open spaces, while for the crowd limit in open spaces shall be fixed at 50 percent.





    The Union Health Ministry data on Monday showed that the number of Omicron cases in India has jumped to 578. Delhi has reported 142 cases, which is the maximum in the entire country followed with Maharashtra with 142 cases, Kerala with 57 cases, 49 in Gujarat and 43 in Rajasthan.

    The total number of Omicron patients now stands at 151.





    Meanwhile, three more family members of the man who tested positive for Omicron, has tested positive for Covid-19.





    The state government of Manipur has asked officials to trace people who came in contact with the patient, detected with the Omicron variant.
