Guwahati: On Saturday, The Students' Federation of India (SFI), Assam State Committee met Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Professor Pratap Jyoti Handique.
During the meet, they have presented a notice requiring transparency in the evaluation of third semester UG (undergraduate) learners so that they can get an impression of their evaluation.
Following, the students' body demanded that the current group of 2nd semester and fourth-semester learners must receive a chance for improvement if they are unhappy with their rank points in the 1st and 3rd semesters.
The possibility can be implemented in the next session. The student organization additionally indicated that the academy requires to plan out a plan for online/offline classes for learners of other semesters so that exams can be handled in decent time and the next session be continued by UGC norms.
"Due to the ongoing COVID situation, education of students has been hampered to a large extent. Last year, offline examinations were not conducted and online examinations were held only for the 6th-semester students. For the rest of the students, grade points were allotted based on the previous semester's SGPAs and internal assessment examinations. Students of the current 4th semester have claimed that SGPA in the 2nd semester has remained identical with the 1st semester, although internal assessment marks of many students improved. This has led to a sense of discontentment amongst them. In this backdrop, cancellation of 3rd-semester examinations and providing grade points based on the previous semester SGPAs, students are tensed."
"Hence, it is imperative to assure the students that a proper evaluation process will be followed. This will account for the proper inclusion of internal assessment marks and also an opportunity may be provided such that students who are dissatisfied with their 3rd-semester examination grade points get an option of betterment in the 5th-semester examination," the SFI declared in the memorandum.
