Assam Board Exams 2021 for both classes 10 and 12 have been cancelled by the state government. The decision has been taken after reviewing the COVID 19 situation in the state.
For Class 10 students, results will be declared based on 40 per cent from Class 9 exams, 40 per cent marks from Class 10 exams and 20 per cent based on internal assessment of students and other factors.
For Class 12 subjects with practicals, 50 per cent marks will be awarded from the average of the best three subjects of class 10 or HSLC exam, 30% from practicals and 10 per cent marks by schools. The remaining 10 per cent marks will be allotted based on the 90 per cent.
However, without practicals, AHSEC said that 50 per cent of marks will be based on the average of the best three subjects of class 10 exams and 40 per cent from internal assessments and other activities during Class 11 and 12. The remaining 10 per cent will be allotted based on the 90 per cent.
Students who are not satisfied with the marks allotted will be allowed to appear for the exams whenever they are held.
Disappointment for some, relief for others, but anxiety among all. This in a way sums up the mood among students of Class 12 after the Assam Education Board cancelled the board exams given the pandemic.
Marks allotted using this procedure will only be valid for getting admission into educational institutions, not for getting jobs. This is a strange decision coming from Assam Government.
The decision is in the favor of students but it is rather appalling as the students have been working hard for the exams. They have no clue about how they will be assessed.
If an internal assessment is made criteria, some not so deserving students might also get a good percentage. The Class 12 board exam is very crucial and the decision seems unfair, particularly to those students who received coaching and were hoping for a good percentage.
This is a sort of injustice to students as some colleges do not conduct entrance tests and merely rely on marks. The students hope that Assam Education Board adopts a transparent and honest approach to promote students as the decision to cancel the exams will affect their careers.
