Imphal: On Wednesday, a suspected Improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated in Manipur’s Imphal East area early in the morning. Reportedly, the incident occurred at 3:30 am in front of a Gala mal Godown Telipati. However, no causalities have been reported.
After getting information, a team of police officials from the Porompat Police station took stock of the situation. Also, a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory arrived at the blast site and conducted an investigation.
Sub- Inspector of Porompat police station, Khailet Lhanghal, stated that the incident was thought to be caused by an improvised explosive device (IED). A suspect had been identified using CCTV footage. However, the suspect’s identity has remained unknown.

“The blast is suspected to be an IED blast which took place on Wednesday early morning at around 3.30 am. We are investigating the CCTV footage and had detected a man but his identity is not known till now. In the clip he was seen coming in Activa scooty and stopped in front of the Godown owned by Ramnath Sahu.” said Lhanghal.
“No casualties have been reported till now and further probe into the incident is going on.”, added Lhanghal.
Meanwhile, the godown owner, Ramnath Sahu, asserted that he didn’t have rivalry with anyone and was unaware of the reason behind the blast.
Notably, this is the third blast in the state as on December 15, a powerful blast took place at a pharmacy in the Lamlong area of Imphal East. While an explosion was reported on November 18 at the Imphal West district in front of a shop.
