Digital Desk: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated on Monday that the governments of Nagaland and Assam are prepared to settle the long-running inter-state border issue between the two northeastern neighbours outside of court.

Nagaland and Assam delegations are expected to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in February to discuss and implement a settlement strategy, according to Rio.

A day after Rio, his deputy Y Patton, and NPF legislature party leader TR Zeilang met Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Sunday, the Nagaland Assembly's select committee to look into the border problem.

"We travelled to Guwahati and had fruitful conversations with Sarma about the border issue. On December 23, 2020, Nagaland and Assam CM met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the issue. Both state governments are in favour of solving the issue out-of-court, and our teams may meet with Shah in the first half of February to discuss and devise a strategy." Rio told the reporters.

In the meeting, along with the Assam-Nagaland border issue, the topic of royalty on petroleum and natural gas was also discussed.
