In a significant anti-drug operation, Kathiatli police arrested three individuals and seized a substantial quantity of drugs in Nagaon, Assam. The raid, conducted with precision, resulted in the apprehension of Iqbal Alam Borbhuyan from Cachar, John Kenide Songate from Manipur, and Lalun Tolunga from Mizoram.
The law enforcement authorities targeted a Tata mobile parked at a petrol pump in Rangalu, uncovering nine soap boxes filled with illicit substances. The seized vehicle bears the registration number AS11EC4856.
The arrested persons are now under custody, facing charges related to drug trafficking. Apart from the Kathiatali arrest, Nagaon police informed about multiple other operations on Thursday.
These operation highlights Assam Police's ongoing efforts to combat drug-related activities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised the biggest offshore drug haul in Gujarat, India, as a “testament” to the Narendra Modi government's “unwavering commitment” to making the country drug-free.
In a joint operation carried out by the Narcotics Control Bureau, the Indian Navy, and the Gujarat Police, over 3,100 kg of drugs in a mother ship; a large vessel carrying large quantities of narcotic contraband for distribution to receiving vessels over the route – were seized near the Gujarat coast.
The joint efforts of various law enforcement agencies in the Northeast region also demonstrate a collective commitment to combating the illegal drug trade. Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local police forces, conducts regular search operations against drug-related activities in states bordering Bangladesh. The arrest of traffickers relating to Barak Valley, Mizoram, and Manipur underscores the international linkages associated with the seized drugs in Nagaon.
