Ripun Bora Defends New Congress Chief Gaurav Gogoi, Vows to Defeat BJP in 2026
In a comprehensive statement, Ripun Bora extended his gratitude to the All India Congress Committee for their decision and congratulated Gaurav Gogoi on his appointment as the new State Congress President.

Digital Desk: Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora has strongly defended newly appointed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi against allegations and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects for the 2026 State Assembly Elections.

In a comprehensive statement, Ripun Bora extended his gratitude to the All India Congress Committee for their decision and congratulated Gaurav Gogoi on his appointment as the new State Congress President.

Bora set an ambitious tone for the party’s electoral strategy stating Congress will defeat BJP under Gaurav Gogoi’s leadership in the 2026 elections.

Addressing the recent controversy surrounding Gaurav Gogoi, Bora categorically stated that the latter is not an agent of Pakistan.

He put forwarded a counter attack asking the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma what communication the CM had with Pakistan during the India-Pakistan tensions.

Bora accused him of misleading the public by claiming that Gaurav Gogoi was present at a function at a Pakistani University.

According to Bora, many other people from the Pakistan Embassy were present with Gaurav Gogoi at the event, but the Chief Minister has denied this fact and given it a new form to the matter.

Regarding Bobita Sarmah’s resignation, Bora indicated that the party would discuss the matter internally.

Bora outlined an ambitious vision for Assam under the new Congress leadership. He emphasized that the new Congress President would give a new form to defeat BJP and stressed the importance of re-energizing all Congress workers from the grassroots level.

In a measured response to comments made by Pabitra Margherita about Gaurav Gogoi, Bora showed personal respect while maintaining party discipline.

Bora concluded with a clear demarcation stating "Let him do BJP’s work, we will do ours". The statements signal Congress’s readiness to consolidate under new leadership while preparing for electoral battles ahead, with Ripun Bora positioning the party as a unified force ready to challenge the ruling BJP  in Assam.
