Big Bash League Players Test Positive for Covid-19, Chaos Persists

Digital Desk: There is chaos in the Big Bash League due to the surge of the third wave of Covid-19. As per officials, 11 players from two different players have tested positive. 

The Big Bash League, Australia's domestic T20 tournament, has been pitched into disorder due to this happening. Sydney Thunder stated that four players tested positive for Covid on Friday in a media release. Moreover, Melbourne Stars conveyed that seven players and eight support staff members returned a positive test. 

The Big Bash League stated, "The Melbourne Stars can ensure 7 players and 8 support staff have returned a positive test for COVID-19. All Melbourne Stars participants and staff undertook PCR testing yesterday, after verification of a positive case within the support staff. All players and staff members who tested positive are presently isolating for 7 days, as per government guidelines."

The post added, "As a precaution, all players who tested negative yesterday, will undertake PCR tests again tomorrow. The Stars are currently operating with Cricket Australia in regard to their immediate fixture and will give an update as soon as possible."

Sydney Thunder said they are "working with Cricket Australia and SA Health" ahead of tonight's BBL game against the Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval.

Previously, Australia Test batter Travis Head returned a positive result for the coronavirus and will now undergo seven-day isolation in Melbourne, meaning he's been ruled out of the fourth Ashes Test to be played in Sydney. Cricket Australia has called up Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis and Nic Maddinson as cover for the Sydney Test scheduled to begin from January 5.
