Digital Desk: Gujarat Titans stand-in skipper Rashid Khan dismissed three Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen in his final over of the match, becoming the first bowler in IPL 2023 history to record a hat-trick. Notably, Rashid removed Andre Russell (1), Sunil Narine (0), and Shardul Thakur (0) in the 17th over to halt KKR's quest.
Rashid had given 35 runs in three overs without scooping up a wicket when he came on to bowl his last over, and Kolkata Knight Riders were on track at 155 for four in 16 overs. Rashid, on the other hand, helped his team get back into the game by striking three times in the first three balls of the 17th over, finishing with numbers of 4-0-37-3.
In T20 cricket, getting a hat trick is incredibly challenging and the Indian Premier League (IPL) is no different. A number of bowlers have achieved that unique feat and etched their names in history books over the years.
It all began in 2008, when Lakshmipathy Balaji became the first player in the league's history to score a hat-trick for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The right-arm seamer contributed to the victory for CSK by finishing with returns of 5/24 and a last-over hat-trick against the Kings XI Punjab (as they were known at the time) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
