Joe Root’s incredible record in 2021 can be summarized by that he has become only the third player in test cricket history to score over 1,700 runs in a calendar year and is just ahead of Mohammad Yousuf and Sir Vivian Richards.
The other nominee is Kyle Jamieson of New Zealand, who took 27 wickets at 17.51 overs in five matches. Moreover, he emerged as one of the most exciting fast bowling prospects in international cricket in 2021.
And the last nominee for the award is Sri Lankan Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored 902 runs at 69.38 with four hundred in seven matches.
This year, Karunaratne included a superb century against South Africa in Johannesburg, two hundred against Bangladesh in two matches in Pallekele, including a doubleton, and a century against the West Indies in Galle.
