Digital Desk: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has suffered another serious blow as ace all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 for another two weeks. Stokes has only participated in two of CSK's four matches so far and is set to miss three more matches.
Stokes, who was injured while bowling, is currently suffering from a toe injury. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has informed fans that Stokes is recuperating well and should be fine for the April 30 match, and potentially even early for the April 27 game.
Stokes had previously been struggling with a knee injury prior to the IPL and was not anticipated to bowl. He did, however, bowl against Lucknow Super Giants in CSK's second game, and hasn't played in any other matches since then. His ongoing absence is a significant setback for the Yellow Army, which spent Rs 16.25 crore on him.
In addition to Stokes, CSK is without Deepak Chahar and Simarjeet Singh. Chahar has suffered a hamstring injury and is out of the next 2-3 games, while Sisanda Magala, who took over for Kyle Jamieson before the season started, will also miss games due to a hand injury.
Even CSK skipper MS Dhoni is suffering from a knee problem that hampered his batting against Rajasthan. CSK currently sits fifth in the points table, with two victories from four matches.
Stokes won't risk playing an IPL match if he is not fully well as the Ashes series is scheduled to start in June. His return to the playing XI could be pushed back, affecting CSK's performance in the tournament.
