Digital Desk: President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, said on Thursday that a pink-ball Test would be played in Bengaluru as part of the Test series between India and Sri Lanka. Later this month, the Sri Lankan team will tour India for two Tests and three T20Is.
“The pink-ball Test will be held in Bengaluru. We haven’t finalized all of the locations for the Sri Lanka series yet, but we’ll announce them soon.” Ganguly told Sportstar.
India will host the pink-ball Test for the third time. In Kolkata (2019), the team faced Bangladesh in the first day-night Test on Indian soil, and in Ahmedabad, they faced England (2021). This test series against Sri Lanka will also mark India’s first appearance in the longest format after Virat Kohli stepped down as Test captain in January. Notably, India’s next full-time captain has yet to be named by the BCCI.
On February 6, Team India will play the first of three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. The ODI on Sunday will also be India’s 1000th appearance in the format.
“I captained India in the 500th One-Day International (against England at the Riverside in Chester-le-Street on July 4, 2002). It is a historic occasion for Indian cricket, but unfortunately, the match will be played without a crowd. The series will also be played at empty venues. It could have been done a lot better if covid-19 hadn’t existed, but you can’t help it.” Ganguly said.
“We can’t really plan anything for this renowned fixture due to Covid-19 constraints.” he added.
Notably, India will become the first to play 1000 One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
