Digital Desk: Nihad Islam Hazarika won the Guwahati Chess Academy's Rapid Chess Tournament on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at the Academy's premises on R G Baruah Road in Guwahati.
Nihad finished the tournament unbeaten with 5.5 points from 6 rounds. He defeated Rishav Barman in the final rounds.
Nalinakhya Kashyap took second place with 5 points. However, Prakash Nath, Jagajit Sinha, and Subhangpran Kashyap all scored 5 points but finished third, fourth, and fifth on the tie-break.
Dhanyata Goswami took first place in the under-7 category with 3 points. Divyansh Deb also scored three points, but he was declared second due to a tie-break score.
Praharsh Choudhury finished third in this category with 2 points. Agnij Bora won the under-9 category with 4 points, while Hriyan Kaushik Thakuria and Neehar Das both scored 3 points and were declared second and third based on their tie-break score.
Pratyush Pathak finished third in this category with 3.5 points. Chiranjib Goswami took first place in the under-15 category with four points, and Jyon Jyotishman Saikia took second place with three points.
There were 41 players in total, including 6 International Fide Rated players. For six rounds, the tournament was run in the Swiss league system.
The top five players received cash and trophies. Senior National Authority Pranab Kumar Nath served as Chief Authority for the tournament, and Kh Jintu Singha served as Deputy Arbiter.
