Digital Desk: In a bid to revolutionize user engagement on its social media platforms, Meta Platforms, is reportedly gearing up to launch a collection of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots, each possessing distinct personalities. Reportedly, the company plans to unveil these AI-powered chatbots as early as September.

The Financial Times revealed that Meta has been diligently working on prototypes of chatbots capable of holding human-like conversations with users. The primary goal is to augment user interaction and foster enhanced communication on their social media platforms.

The chatbots, known as "Personabots," will embody diverse personas, ranging from historical figures to quirky characters. Among the intriguing personas are an AI chatbot designed to converse like the iconic Abraham Lincoln and another one with a carefree surfer persona, offering travel recommendations in an informal manner. The addition of these Personabots is expected to enrich the user experience, provide a new search function, and offer personalized suggestions.

The move comes in light of Meta's ongoing efforts to improve retention on its newly launched text-based app Threads, which experienced a significant drop in users just weeks after its introduction on July 5th. By introducing AI-powered chatbots, Meta aims to entice users to remain engaged and immersed in its platforms.

Despite Meta's silence on the matter, market analysts speculate that this strategic foray into AI-powered chatbots is a logical step for the company, given the ever-increasing interest in AI technology. The tech giant has witnessed a resurgence after a challenging 2022, during which it streamlined its operations and trimmed its workforce by approximately 21,000 employees.

Last week, Meta reported a surge in advertising revenue, exceeding market expectations, which further fueled speculation about the company's potential success in the AI domain. The integration of AI chatbots is expected to bolster its advertising strategies and ultimately contribute to higher revenue.

The development also follows reports from Bloomberg News that Apple is diligently working on its AI offerings, akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard. Sources disclosed that Apple has developed its own framework, codenamed "Ajax," to create large language models and is currently testing a chatbot that some engineers internally refer to as "Apple GPT."

As competition in the AI sector heats up, companies like Meta and Apple are eager to harness the potential of AI technologies to enhance user experiences and bolster their market positions.

As we eagerly await the launch of Meta's innovative AI-powered chatbots, industry experts and users alike anticipate a paradigm shift in the realm of social media interactions. With AI-driven Personabots on the horizon, users may soon find themselves immersed in conversations with digital counterparts that mirror historical icons or embody unconventional personalities, transcending the boundaries of traditional communication.

Meta Platforms' strategic pivot into AI-powered chatbots signals a pivotal moment in the evolution of social media platforms, heralding an era of more immersive and dynamic interactions for millions of users worldwide.
