Sleeping close to your iPhone while charging might be risky; warns Apple
Apple's caution goes beyond simply dozing off while charging...

Digital Desk: Apple has issued a warning to phone users about the dangers of sleeping close to a charged phone. In a service statement, the business emphasises the need for appropriate phone charging and the dangers of sleeping with a device connected to a charging connection.

There is a risk of fire, electric shock, injury, or damage to the phone and property. To avoid these risks, Apple strongly urges consumers to charge their phones while attached to a wire in a well-ventilated place.

It is also advised against charging a phone when it is covered by a blanket or pillow due to the increased possibility of the device overheating. Apple's key message is clear, it states that "Do not sleep on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, and avoid placing them under a blanket, pillow, or your body while connected to a power source."

It is advised to only use or charge iPhones, power adapters, and wireless chargers in areas that have good ventilation. Apple emphasises the potential risk of using chargers from other manufacturers, particularly less expensive models that might not adhere to the same safety requirements as Apple's branded chargers. Apple suggests consumers choose "Made for iPhone" cords that follow global safety standards to allay any worries about this.

While third-party cables and power adapters that adhere to USB 2.0 or later standards and follow applicable safety rules can be used to charge an iPhone, the company warns that some adapters may not do so, creating risks of injury or even death. Apple's caution goes beyond simply dozing off while charging.

Additionally, it emphasises the necessity of immediately throwing away broken chargers and the significance of avoiding charging phones close to liquids or water. It is possible to cause fires, electric shocks, injuries, or damage to both the iPhone and other property by using damaged cords or chargers or by charging while exposed to moisture. Apple's final piece of advice is to put safety first by strictly adhering to their instructions.

By following these guidelines, users can protect themselves, their phones, and their surroundings from potential dangers.
