Digital Desk: Apple Inc plans to begin manufacturing the iPhone 14 in India around two months after its debut outside of China, cutting the gap from the customary six to nine months for prior launches, according to reports.
As per the people familiar with the situation, the company has been working with suppliers to scale up manufacturing in India, and the first iPhone 14s from the nation are expected to be ready in late October or November, following the initial September release.
According to Foxconn, Apple's Taiwan-based supplier, the procedure of transporting parts from China and assembling the iPhone 14 at its plant near Chennai has been studied.
According to the statement, the US IT giant is considering its options after Beijing's
disputes with Washington and nationwide lockdowns halted production.
Apple has moved some iPhone manufacturers from China to other markets, including India, the world's second-largest smartphone market, and plans to assemble iPad tablets there as well.
As contract manufacturers aim to diversify manufacturing away from China, India and other nations such as Mexico and Vietnam are becoming increasingly relevant.
Previously, the US considered banning supplies of American chipmaking equipment to Chinese memory chip producers in an effort to curb China's semiconductor sector gains and protect US enterprises.
