Digital Desk: Soon after launching the
much-anticipated 5G services in 13 major Indian cities at the India Mobile
Congress 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Reliance's Jio pavilion to
experience 'True 5G' devices and use cases via Jio Glass. The PM was given a personal
demonstration by Mukesh Ambani's eldest son, Akash Ambani, who recently took
over as Chairman of Jio Infocomm, Reliance Industries' digital division.
"He
also spent time understanding how an indigenous team of young Jio engineers is
developing end-to-end 5G technology, and how 5G can help bridge the gap between
urban and rural healthcare delivery," Jio said in a statement.
PM
Modi was accompanied by Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Junior Telecom
Minister Devusinh Chauhan, and Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries
Limited.
After
inaugurating the exhibition, PM Modi went around pavilions set up by different
telecom operators and technology providers to get a first-hand experience of
what 5G can do. He started with Reliance Jio's stalls.
He
also went to Airtel, Vodafone Idea, C-DOT, and other companies' booths.
After
Diwali, 5G services will be available in 13 Indian cities. "5G has the
potential to unleash new economic opportunities and societal benefits, making
it a transformational force for Indian society."
It will "help the country leapfrog traditional development
barriers, spur innovation by startups and business enterprises, and advance the
'Digital India' vision," according to an official release from the
organisers.
The largest telecom spectrum auction in India had recently
received a record Rs 1.5 lakh crore of bids, with Mukesh Ambani's Jio capturing
nearly half of all airwaves sold with a Rs 88,078 crore bid.
