platform, announced on Tuesday that it is requesting a judicial review of the
situation in an effort to resist instructions from the Indian government to
remove content. The attempt is a part of a wider spat over content regulation
between Twitter and the government.
color:black;mso-themecolor:text1">According to a source familiar with the
situation who spoke to news agency Reuters, Twitter claims official misuse of
authority in the ongoing legal dispute.
color:black;mso-themecolor:text1">The Indian IT ministry had already threatened
Twitter with legal action if it disobeyed some orders.
Since last year, Indian
authorities have asked Twitter to take action on content, including accounts that
call for an independent Sikh state and a large number of tweets that criticise
how the government is handling the COVID pandemic.
However,
when contacted for comment regarding Twitter's legal action on Tuesday, the
Union IT ministry did not answer right away.
