Digital Desk: An extraordinary story of an Australian sailor and his dog who were rescued after being stranded in the Pacific Ocean for around three months.

The sailor and his dog spent around three months in the Pacific Ocean after the boat they were sailing on got damaged. Following that, they remained dependent on raw fish and rainwater.

Shaddock, who was traveling 6,000 kilometers from La Paz, Mexico, to French Polynesia, took shelter under the canopy of the boat.

A surveillance helicopter watching out for a Mexican fishing vessel spotted the duo on July 12.

Shaddock had "normal vital signs," according to the press statements made by the doctor present on the boat.
Speaking to 9 News, Shaddock stated, "I have been through a very difficult ordeal at sea."

"I'm just needing rest and good food because I have been alone at sea for a long time. Otherwise, I'm in very good health," he added.

Following his longer-than-expected sea journey, Shaddock appeared to have grown a bushy beard, and the trawler uploaded a photo of him online, which led some people on social media to compare Shaddock to actor Tom Hanks from the movie "Castaway" because of the similarity in appearance.

The duo is currently being taken back to Mexico by the tuna trawler, where they will undergo additional medical attention. 
A photo of Shaddock, posted by the trawler after the rescue, showed he had grown a bushy beard during his longer-than-expected sea sojourn, sparking comparisons to Hollywood actor Tom Hanks' look from the film "Castaway" among people on social media.

The tuna trawler is currently carrying the duo across the Pacific back to Mexico, where they will receive further medical treatment.
