Digital Desk: In a horrifying incident, a 10-year-old child was beaten and forced to chant "Jai Shri Ram" in the communally sensitive Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The police reportedly filed an FIR against a tribal man after the child's parents lodged a complaint.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday evening in Khandwa's Pandhana area, while the child was out for his lessons. As per reports, the accused man, identified as Ajay Bhil, ordered the child to stop and demanded him to chant 'Jai Shri Ram.'
The child, who was on his way to a private school, refused to comply as he belonged to a Muslim family. This led to Ajay Bhil launching a violent attack on the Class 5 student, beating him up mercilessly, the news report said.
The accused only stopped the assault and let the boy go after he chanted the slogan out of fear. Following this, the terrified child reportedly rushed back to his home and informed his parents of all that had happened.
The boy's father immediately rushed to the Pandhana police station and filed a complaint against the man. Confirming police action against Ajay Bhil, Khandwa Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Singh Chouhan told TNIE that an FIR has been lodged against him. Ajay Bhil was reportedly booked under IPC Sections 295A (outraging or insulting religious feelings) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
In 2021, two people were detained in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district for reportedly attacking a Muslim man and forcing him to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'. According to reports, the victim was a ragpicker who was attacked while looking for scrap items.
