Afghan women were forced into marriages to flee from Afghanistan since Taliban takeover: Report

Kabul: In yet another segment of desperation among the Afghan refugees, many women were forced to get married right outside the Kabul airport to make them eligible for evacuation to the United States.

CNN reported that US officials found at one of the evacuation centres in the UAE that some of the families of these Afghan women forced them to get married to flee from the country.

Reportedly, the families even pay men eligible for evacuation thousands of dollars to marry or pose as husbands to flee from Afghanistan.

The shocking step taken by the Afghans shows the utmost desperation, especially among the women, to flee from Afghanistan.

The US State department hints that it would coordinate with Homeland Security and the Defense Department on this matter.

Moreover, the US diplomats are expected to help UAE to detect such cases where Afghan women are at risk of human trafficking.

On August 30, marking the end of the 20 years of the Afghan war, the US troops made their final exit from Afghanistan.

According to a report, the Taliban has banned the traveling of women who are unaccompanied by a male family member.

In the last regime of the Taliban, between 1996 and 2001, they closed girls' schools and banned women from working, but after the US-led invasion in 2001, the restriction on women was eased.

After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, they said that they would form an Afghan Inclusive Islamic government. It will be notable, what steps the Taliban will take with respect to women's rights.
