Digital Desk: At least 16 people were killed and 24 were injured in the northwestern Afghanistan blast on Wednesday.

The explosion occurred during the afternoon prayer at the Jahdia seminary in Aybak, Samangan, according to Tolo News.

According to a doctor at Samangan Provincial Hospital, at least 15 dead and 27 injured persons have been taken to the hospital, according to Tolo News.

According to a Taliban official, at least ten students were murdered when a bomb exploded at a religious school in northern Afghanistan.

According to local officials, the blast occurred during the afternoon prayer.

According to Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor, several people were injured in the bombing attack in Aybak, the capital of northern Samangan province.

So far, no group or organisation has claimed blame for the explosion.

Blasts and violence have been commonplace in Afghanistan since the Taliban seized control following the overthrow of the US-backed civilian government last year.

According to rights groups, the Taliban violated several vows to uphold human and women's rights.
