China issues warning to athletes ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics
Digital DeskThe Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, is widely criticized by various non-government organizations and activists across the world due to its diplomatic code of conduct apart from the sportsmanship approach.

In the past, the scenario of the Summer Olympics in 2008 was quite different from now, as the Beijing Winter Olympics displays a ‘closed republic’ code of conduct towards visitors, athletes, and other local activists, today.

This year, the Beijing Winter Olympics officials have warned athletes not to speak against the country’s law, and also the local activists are under house arrest to restrict them from protesting during the Winter Olympics which would bring down the country's reputation.

Contrastingly, 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the then Chinese government had made special arrangements and allotted three parks in the capital for anyone wanting to protest during the games. But, situations drastically shifted towards worst this year as no such arrangements are made and the police has been empowered with special powers to detain anyone at any time, according to reports.

The Beijing Winter Olympic organizers warned the athletes that their participation could be canceled if they spoke against the law and order.

It came after last week 243 global groups including non-governmental organizations have called for action against China over human rights concerns as the Beijing Winter Olympics is set to begin in the first week of February.
