Manchester United set to introduce ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ rule to limit player salaries

Digital Desk: Manchester United reportedly introduced the "Cristiano Ronaldo rule," which limits player salaries to £200,000 per week, in order to stop players from making "much more" than their teammates.

The decision was made after Ronaldo, who was earning roughly £500,000 per week, left the club in November last year.

This is reportedly the next step in Erik ten Hag's plan to put together a cohesive team for the club. The Daily Mail claims that the Dutchman and chief executive Richard Arnold decided to put the salary ceiling in place.

With a current weekly salary of £375,000 and a contract that expires at the end of the season, goalkeeper David de Gea will be the first to be impacted by this rule.

The club intends to maintain a wage range between £180,000 and £200,000 per week for senior players like Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Casemiro, and Bruno Fernandes.

Marcus Rashford, on the other hand, maybe an issue for the Red Devils. His one-year contract extension, which is thought to be worth £400,000 per week, was recently activated. It is unclear if Rashford will accept the higher pay scale and extend his contract given the interest from other European teams in his abilities.

After leaving Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr.

The Saudi Pro League squad, however, had used up all of its international players and the 37-year-old was ineligible to play for them. One more than the league's maximum, Ronaldo is their ninth foreign player.

By cancelling their agreement with Vincent Aboubakar, Al-Nassr reportedly found a solution to the problem.

At the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, Aboubakar led Cameroon with two goals and one assist. He is presently an unsigned free agent. It's interesting that a transfer to Manchester United has recently been suggested for him. A loan offer for his services was reportedly made by the English giants and the Turkish team Fenerbahce.

Because Ronaldo's exit has only left Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as alternatives for strikers, both of whom are prone to injury, the Red Devils are reportedly hoping to sign a forward this month.
