New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern cancels her wedding due to Omicron surge
Digital Desk: New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern canceled all her wedding plans due to the rise in Omicron cases. Ardern announced the news during a conference on Sunday.

She said, "My wedding won't be going ahead, but I just join many other New Zealanders who have had an experience like that as a result of the pandemic."

PM Jacinda Ardern stated that health authorities had conveyed nine Omicron cases in Motueka in a single-family household. In addition, the family travelled to Auckland to attend a marriage, a funeral, an amusement garden, and a tourist attraction last weekend, driving the nation to progress to the highest "red light" stage.

When Ardern was asked how she felt concerning her decision to cancel the wedding that was due to be held this summer, Ardern responded, "Such is life."

Last month, New Zealand stated it was moving back its phased border reopening until the end of February over unease regarding the Omicron variant.

Chris Hipkins, the nation's minister for COVID-19 reaction, stated: "Waiting till the end of February will improve New Zealand's all-around safety and slow Omicron's eventual reach. There's no suspicion this is disappointing and will worry many holiday projects. Still, it's necessary to put these changes out today, so they can have time to evaluate those goals."

Hipkins further stated that New Zealand's Cabinet has decided to other preventive actions. It will also include decreasing the gap between a second Covid-19 vaccine dose and a booster hit from six months to four months. Moreover, raising the necessary length of stay for returning travelers from seven to 10 days in controlled isolation and quarantine.
