New lock-downs in China after a fresh COVID outbreak

Beijing: Covid-19 has resurfaced in China. On Monday, the local administration in the country has locked down the city of Lanzhou after an outbreak of new covid-19 in the city.

Lanzhou is the capital of northwest China’s Gansu province. The decision to lock down the city was taken by its government after China reported new deaths due to the virus.

Reports from the local media stated that the residents of the city have been told to stay indoors and go out only in cases of emergencies. According to a statement by the local government “all types of residential communities are to implement closed management”.

Officials also say that the entry and exit of residents will be strictly controlled. It will only be limited to the supply of essential commodities and medical emergencies.

Over the past week, over 100 new cases have been reported from 11 different provinces within the country.  "Since October 17, there have been multiple scattered local outbreaks in China, and they're expanding rapidly," Mi Feng, a spokesman at the National Health Commission stated to the media on Sunday.

The health officials also fear that the latest outbreak will see further increase in the coming days if not controlled immediately.
