Ukraine-Russia Conflict: 13 border guards on island of Black Sea refuse to surrender, killed by Russ
Digital Desk: On Thursday, all Ukrainian border guards stationed on a small island near Romania in the Black Sea were slain after telling a Russian cruiser to 'Go f*** yourselves' when they were told to surrender.

The small force of border guards, reportedly numbering 13, were stationed on Snake Island in the Odessa region near Black Sea, protecting the territory following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

'This is a Russian military warship,' a sailor on board the vessel said in radio communication to the soldiers.

'I recommend that you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid unnecessary bloodshed and losses.' You'll be blasted if you don't.'

On the other hand, the Ukrainian border guards firmly refused to give up the land instead of sending a belligerent message saying, "Go f*** yourselves."

Russian soldiers can be heard returning the curse to the defiant Ukrainians on the radio. All of them were slain soon after in an aircraft bombardment.

Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, recognized the soldiers' deaths late Thursday. A video circulating on Twitter purported to show the island being shelled at the time. However, before a shell fell close, it showed a Ukrainian soldier peering at a camera.

According to Ukraine's interior ministry, Snake Island, also known as Zmiinyi, was attacked by Russian forces on Thursday afternoon.
