World Sparrow Day: History, Significance and Theme

'I Love Sparrows' was the theme of World Sparrow Day 2021. Sparrows can be found in backyards, grassy spaces, and urban areas.

Digital Desk: Every year on March 20th, World Sparrow Day is observed. House sparrows, which are firmly connected with human habitations, dwell in both urban and rural areas.  This day is marked to raise awareness about sparrows and to conserve them. Growing up, we all saw sparrows outside our windows, but the small bird is on the danger of extinction due to growing noise pollution. World Sparrow Day was established as an international initiative by the National Forever Society India in partnership with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation. Many other national and international organisations throughout the world raise awareness about house sparrows and other endangered species.

    WORLD SPARROW DAY: SIGNIFICANCE

On March 10, 2010, the inaugural World Sparrow Day was commemorated. Since then, it has been observed on an annual basis. The Nature Forever Society was created by Mohammed Dilawar, who worked to increase awareness about the bird. TIME Magazine named him one of the "Heroes of the Environment" in 2008 for his conservation efforts. The purpose of this day is to educate people about the relevance and value of sparrows and other birds. This day is observed to safeguard the beauty of biodiversity and nature.

On this day, organisations, environmentalists, and nature lovers hold events, activities, and functions to urge people to contribute to the cause and bring the globe together. This day provides a venue for conservationists to collaborate and exchange ideas. This day serves as a gathering place for individuals from all around the world.
