For 14 years, a Chinese man has been living at the airport. But why? Know here

He claimed to have taken a break for a few days before returning. “At least I have my freedom in the airport,” the Chinese man named Wei was reported by the China Daily as saying.

Digital Desk: According to reports, a Chinese man has been living in the Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal for more than a decade and has no plans to return to his family.

Wei Jianguo, the chinese man moved into the airport terminal following a fight with his family, who were unhappy with his smoking and drinking habits. According to China Daily, Wei, 60, is unemployed and has been living inside the airport’s Terminal 2 since 2008.

“My family advised me that if I wanted to stay, I needed to stop smoking and drinking. If I couldn’t do that, I was forced to give them my whole monthly government grant of 1,000 yuan ($150). But how would I get my smokes and drink then? “He told the China Daily in an interview.

Wei stated that he was sacked from his job while he was in his 40s and has not been able to find work since owing to his advanced age.

Notably, Wei is not the only one who considers the airport to be his “home.” A senior sanitation worker informed China Daily that five or six additional individuals were living in the airport’s terminals.

The airport’s sanitation and security personnel have not protested to their presence.

However, Wei was ordered to leave soon before Christmas last year when a video of him eating noodles in the terminal’s waiting lounge went viral. But he quickly returned.

He claimed to have taken a break for a few days before returning. “At least I have my freedom in the airport,” the Chinese man named Wei was reported by the China Daily as saying.
