Digital Desk: A suicide bomber struck an education institute in the Afghan capital's Shiite district on Friday, killing 19 people and injuring 27, according to a Taliban-appointed spokesperson for the Kabul police chief.

According to the spokesperson, Khalid Zadran, the explosion within the institute in Kabul's Dashti Barchi district took place in the morning hours.

The bombing was the most recent instance of constant bloodshed since the Taliban took control. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack in the area, which is primarily occupied by Afghanistan's minority Shiite group.

The Islamic State group—the chief rival of the Taliban since their takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021—has in the past targeted the Hazara community, including in Dashti Barchi.

"Our teams have dispatched to the site of the blast to find out more details," Abdul Nafi Takor, a Taliban-appointed spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said earlier.
