Digital Desk: In Donald Trump’s administration, there have been multiple a tempts to assassinate the former president of the United States, but none of them were fatal. These threats mirror the very polarized political landscape in the United States during his presidency period and afterward. Moreover, in 2024, the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, was targeted multiple times.
Around 2016, during Trump’s bid for the presidency in Las Vegas, Michael Stanford, a British citizen, went to Vegas and sought to eliminate Trump. Stanford attempted to wrestle a pistol from a police officer and was immediately restrained by the security personnel on the scene. He took this step because he did not want Trump to become the president of the country. Later, he was deported back to his country.
Later in 2020, Pascale Ferrier, a Canadian woman, tried to post a letter with the substance, Ricin (a highly toxic chemical poison), to the US president, Donald Trump. The letter was intercepted before it even got to him. Ferrier was arrested when she tried to get into the United States with a gun and a knife. She had been arrested before for carrying a weapon and had also posted negative remarks about Trump on social media. Her actions mirrored the next level of agitation and political polarization during Trump’s presidency. She was given a life term in prison.
However, the most serious assassination attempt was carried out during the presidential election rally in 2024, which left two people dead and Trump’s ear was punctured. The second assassination attempt occurred on the 9th of September in the Trump International Golf Club. The third possible attack was carried out on 12th October outside Trump’s rally in Coachella Valley in California. The FBI and the Secret Service are investigating the latest incident.
These cases and threats demonstrate that this is just the tip of the iceberg with the high level of danger that political leaders such as Donald Trump experience in the presence of instability in the political system. All of them emphasize the need for proper organization and prevention of such possible threats.
