Digital Desk: After pausing military aid to Ukraine following a verbal confrontation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump warns that the former "won't be around very long" if a ceasefire deal with Russia is not made. Without taking any name, Trump gave the statement.
In an event with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) chief executive CC Wei at the White House on Monday, President Trump said, "It should not be that hard a deal to make. It could be made very fast. Now, maybe somebody doesn't want to make a deal, I think that person won't be around very long."
Trump criticised his Ukraine counterpart for commenting that the war would go on for a long time. The US President also said that Zelensky should be "more appreciative" of billions of dollars of aid in Kyiv's fight against Russia.
Speaking to the reporters Trump said, "Well, I just think he should be more appreciative because this country has stuck with them through thick and thin. We've given them much more than Europe, and Europe should have given more than us, because, as you know, that's right there. That's the border. This country really was like the fence on the border. It was very important to Europe. And I'm not knocking Europe, I'm saying they're just--they were a lot smarter than Joe Biden because Joe Biden didn't have a clue. He just gave money hand over a fist, and they should have been able to equalize with us."'
Earlier Zelensky said that a deal to end the war between Ukraine and Russia is still very far away while expressing his wish to keep receiving American support despite a recent spat with Trump.
Slamming Zelensky for this statement, Trump said in a Truth Social post, "This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelensky, and America will not put up with it for much longer."
