Jana, Gana, Mana mistake: Education minister recites national anthem incorrectly, mocked online

Patna: Bihar’s new education minister Mewalal Choudhary was mocked online after an old video of him singing Jana Gana Mana at what appears to be a school event was shared by Rashtriya Janata Dal.

In the video, Choudhary, a Janata Dal United (JDU) MLA, can be seen singing the National Anthem, however, he forgets some words in between. “Bihar Education Minister Mevalal Chaudhary, accused of several corruption cases, does not even know the National Anthem. Do you have any shame left, Nitish Kumar ji? Where have you sunk your conscience?” the RJD captioned the video.

He is heard singing “Punjab Vasant Gujarat Maratha” instead of “Punjab Sindh Gujarat Maratha”.

As soon as the video was shared on Twitter, it went viral. It has been viewed more than 2.2 lakh times. Netizens criticised Choudhary for not the National Anthem.

One user said, “Imagine the fate of students.” Another wrote, “Shameful.Are we living in year of 2020,,,where Education minister are not knowing our National anthem.”

Someone commented, “The expression of the kid in first row is priceless .. like ‘Arre Ye Kab Hua’.” Yet another added, “It’s really sad Bihar education minister don’t know things which we were told in school at primary level.”
