Kejriwal bats for Bharat Ratna for Indian doctors who battled COVID-19

New Delhi: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has inscribed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding that Bharat Ratna be awarded to the “Indian doctor” this year. This statement means it would include doctors, nurses, and paramedics.

“The country wants this year’s Bharat Ratna to be awarded to the “Indian doctor.” By this, I don’t mean a particular person. Doctors, nurses, and paramedics in the country should get this honor,” Kejriwal wrote to the PM on Sunday.

India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, was last presented to Late President Pranab Mukherjee, Bharatiya Jana Sangh chief Nanaji Deshmukh including singer Bhupendra Kumar Hazarika in 2019.

In his message, Kejriwal addressed, “Various doctors and nurses lost their lives fighting Covid. If we confer them the Bharat Ratna, it will be a true tribute to them. Lakhs of doctors have selflessly served people without worrying about their lives or their families. There is no better way to honor and thank them,” Kejriwal wrote.

Kejriwal also requested the PM to develop the laws if they do not authorize the honor to be presented to a group.
