We decided to check out whether an Instagram post claiming that apple cider vinegar may help with cracked feet, dry skin, and toenail fungus is a myth or fact. 


    The post was under the account named indian_veg_diet which read "Did you Know, Soaking your feet in apple cider vinegar can help heal smelly feet, cracked heels, dry skin, sunburn, warts, and toenail fungus."



    It went on to say that all you have to do is combine one part apple cider vinegar with four parts water and soak your feet in the concoction.


    Let's check if it's a Myth or whether it works-


    For those who are unfamiliar, apple cider vinegar is created by fermenting apple cider with yeast and other beneficial microorganisms. "The fermentation process creates a compound in the vinegar called 'acetic acid' and malic acid,' both of which are known for their antibacterial and antifungal properties," said Dr Vandana Punjabi, a dermatologist and trichologist at Khar and Nanavati Hospitals.


    According to Dr. Stuti Khare Shukla, dermatologist and Dermato-surgeon, "bathing feet in apple cider vinegar has shown potential effects in certain circumstances, providing a natural and accessible approach for foot care."

    "More scientific research is required to fully comprehend the underlying mechanisms." The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar, combined with its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory characteristics, helps to produce a condition that may prevent the growth of some fungi and bacteria. Furthermore, vinegar's moderate exfoliating capabilities may aid in the removal of dead skin cells, producing a smoother and healthier appearance of the foot," stated Dr Shukla.


    Dr Shukla, on the other hand, advises using apple cider vinegar with caution and moderation. "Excessive or prolonged vinegar exposure may cause skin irritation or dryness." "As with any treatment, it is best to consult a dermatologist," Dr Shukla advised.


    As per scientific reports advised by a Doctor, It is important to remember that Apple cider vinegar is highly acidic in nature and can cause burns if applied straight to the skin for an extended period of time. As a result, it should always be diluted with water and used for a limited time, such as 15-20 minutes. 


    Furthermore, It is to be noted that "Apple Cider Vinegar should be avoided on sensitive skin and open wounds," experts also advise that if home cures do not work for you, you should see a dermatologist.
