According to a new study, those who take acid reflux drugs regularly for four and a half years or more may have a higher risk of dementia than those who do not.

Many antacids, including Maalox, Mylanta, Rolaids, and Tums, include calcium, as reported by Healthline. Calcium overdose can occur if you take too much or for longer than recommended.

Alkalosis can also result from too much calcium. Your body can't produce enough acid in this state for it to work effectively. It could be a sign of another condition if you feel like you need to take a lot of antacids to feel better.
