    Digital Desk: Heatwaves are becoming more danger as summer comes closer and the weather starts to change. It's crucial to put your health first during this intense heat wave by taking practical precautions to keep cool and safe.

    What does a heatwave mean?

    Heatwave is a condition of air temperature that becomes dangerous and fatal when exposed to the human body. It is described in terms of the actual temperature or the deviation from the norm based on the temperature thresholds over a certain region. 

    When a station's maximum temperature hits at least 40 degrees Celsius in plain areas or at least 30 degrees Celsius in hilly areas, it is deemed to be in a heat wave.

    The weather office issued advice to the public on the current weather: protect your head, cover it with a cloth, hat, or umbrella; wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing made of cotton; and avoid being in the sunlight.

     Dos 

     • Ensure that you are adequately hydrated by drinking water. 

     • Make sure you drink enough ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and make homemade summertime beverages like butter milk, coconut water, and lemon water to prevent dehydration. 

     • During the summer, dress in lightweight, cotton clothing in light colors. 

     • Use a cloth, hat, sunglasses, and umbrella to protect your skin and eyes from the sun's rays at all times. 

     • Pay the young, the old, and those who are overweight some extra care.

    Don'ts

     

     • Avoid roaming outside in the sun from 12 pm to 3 pm. 

     • Refrain from engaging in any strenuous activity. 

     • Avoid consuming oily, spicy, salty, and high-protein foods. 

     • Cooking should also be avoided during summer's busiest times. 

     • Be careful not to leave your children or pets unattended in parked cars.
