Digital Desk: The traditional Vastu rules on having pets in the house is somewhat detached, considering that they should be kept outside. Except for Ganesha, who held himself on a mouse, Saraswati, who flew around on a swan, and Shiva, who tamed a furious bull, almost every Hindu deity was accompanied by a vahana or vehicle. We may not have felt at ease keeping animals indoors in the land of the holy cow, but we certainly treated them as divine messengers with respect.

Vastu for pets suggests that various animal species have different effects on a home and its people. Let's look at what and how you may make your home decor appropriate for both the owner and the pets.

1. Dogs 

Dogs are a man's best friend. As pets, dogs signify loyalty and protection in the home. According to Vastu Shastra rules, the dog should be kept in an indoor room that faces the north direction. 

If you live in an apartment, your dog's kennel must be near the front door. Dogs should also be bathed on a regular basis; if they are dirty, you should not allow them to roam around your house.

2. Birds 

If you have parrots or love birds at home, you must keep your birdcage facing east, north, or northeast to keep the birds active, fit, and happy. Your pet birds should have access to enough sunlight, space, and fresh air. 

Keep water in an earthen bowl on the southeast side of your house so your flying pets can quench their thirst whenever they want. Nurturing love birds at home promotes husband and wife romance and contributes to a happy atmosphere.

3. Fish

According to Vastu Shastra, fish are believed to bring their owners wealth, success, and good health. If you have a fish aquarium, keep it facing northeast so that it might live longer and healthier lives.

4. Cow

Cows are given a lot of importance in the Hindu Puranas. The cow, also known as "Mata," is considered as a sacred animal. According to Vastu Shastra principles, cows are considered to relieve sorrow and suffering, and cow's milk, urine, and dung are also recognized to have medical value. 

In other words, whether you keep cows as pets or for business, you should always keep them facing east or northwest.

5. Turtle 

The turtle is one of the most well-liked animals kept as pets. Make sure your turtle is kept in a tank or aquarium that faces north. According to Vastu rules, turtles are considered lucky and are linked to money, fortune, and prosperity. They also symbolize prosperity and will undoubtedly bring you good fortune.

Vastu will agree with animal rights activists in this case and believe that you can only care for a rescued animal. Vastu claims that buying a pet has the same karma as separating a child from its mother at birth.
